Timothy Hunter was born in Allness, a small town just outside Inverness in the north of Scotland. His interest in music developed during his time at secondary school, where he took up the French Horn. He studied French Horn and Composition at Glasgow University before studying for his M Mus at the RSAMD studying with David Flack and David McClenaghan. Tim played in all the RSAMD Orchestras and played in the award winning Academy Brass, with whom he toured China. It was also during his time at the RSAMD that he joined Thistle Brass to which he brings a fine talent for organisation in addition to his acrobatic horn playing!

Outwith the quintet, Tim plays regularly with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the Scottish Chamber Orchesta, the BBC Philharmonic, Scottish Opera Orchestra the Scottish Ensemble and is currently 4th Horn with Scottish Ballet. He was also a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland for several years.

As a concerto soloist he has appeared with the University of Glasgow Symphony Orchestra and the Highland Chamber Orchestra, and has also premiered several new works written especially for him. In addition to his interest in contemporary music, he is also a specialist on the natural horn, and can be heard playing as a featured soloist on ‘ Les Douze Noëls' recorded by Linn Records.
